hey!

I'm Cheryl!

I'm a Deaf Awareness and Accessibility Expert, Podcaster dedicated to helping people to be inclusive for deaf and hard of hearing people.

I started my business after learning how a lot of businesses, organisations, coaches and training were not accessible and it made it difficult for me to be included. It's not their fault as there are not enough awareness and support out there for them to learn how to be accessible and inclusive for deaf and hard of hearing.

My Story

I am profoundly deaf. I was born deaf and I have experienced my whole life being deaf and the struggles and barriers I went through. Being deaf doesn't stop me from doing anything in fact it made me want to do more and show people we can do what we want to do and achieve our dreams.

When I was a little girl I always got involved in everything, sports, taking part in shows, dancing and many more. This gave me the confidence to do more in my life and I just wanted to be the same as everyone else.

Growing up I worked hard and I had a dream of being a graphic designer. My dream came true as I was a graphic designer for 13 years. I left school when I was 16. I went to college and studied graphic design. Soon I left I got a job straight away working as a design assistant and then graphic designer.

My dream came true!

Then I felt something was missing and I wanted to do more with my life. After I had my two children, one is deaf and one is hearing, I started to realise how important it was to treat them both the same and to show my son who is deaf that we can do anything and achieve our dreams and show my daughter who is hearing that her mummy can be like other mummies and I don't need to rely on her to help me. I will find a way to get involved just like other mummies.

I decided to leave my job and work for myself as a graphic designer. I joined so many courses and training to learn how to promote my business etc. This was when everything changed I felt really excluded as there weren't any subtitles in training videos and I just wanted to learn and run my business the same as everybody else. I decided why not become a business consultant where I can help other people, businesses, workplaces or organisations how to be accessible and include deaf and hard of hearing people.

How I got here?

I joined a lot of training, courses and I've learnt so much about business and marketing.  I love networking and meeting new people. This made me realise with my experience and knowledge I want to help people and their business or organisation to start being inclusive.

Over the last year I have helped businesses to be accessible and include deaf and hard of hearing people.

With my graphic design background I have designed branding templates for clients to use for their social media videos and help them to add captions without feeling overwhelmed by the task or taking up too much of their time.
